Artis Royal Zoo is Amsterdam’s only zoo and the biggest zoo in the Netherlands. It is located in the Plantage neighborhood in the East of the city, very near the Plantage Kerklaan tram stop. Artis is a wonderland of plants and animals set among stunning examples of 19th century Dutch architecture. In addition to over 900 species of animals and 200 species of plants, the zoo boasts playgrounds, a planetarium, and notable restaurants and cafes. A great place to spend the day outdoors in Amsterdam, especially if you are visiting with kids.

Accessibility

Artis Zoo is located in the center of Amsterdam at Plantage Kerklaan 38-40, only a few minutes from Dam Square. It has its own parking lot and is also easy to reach by public transport.

Accessibility by Public Transport

Tram 9 from Amsterdam Central Station the Plantage Kerklaan stop. Trams 10 and 14 also stop close to the zoo. The closest metro station is Waterlooplein, about a 10-minute walk from the zoo entrance. Artis can also be reached by tour boat: Artis Zoo Express (operated by Rederij Lovers) and Canal Bus both operate tour boat service to the Artis Royal Zoo.
